What is the emerging church?

What exactly is the emerging church? I wish it were easy to pin down, but the emerging church is difficult to define. Usually the emerging church is anything out of the ordinary or alternative to traditional church ministry. But even that isn't a very good definition. The emerging church is anyone who wants to reach people where they are at with the love of Christ.

Generally speaking an emerging church will be small and intense, a kind of micro church. The emerging church shuns the idea of mega-churches that have sprung up in recent years. An emerging church could be nothing more than meeting some one for coffee and talking about the Bible. My sister, for example, sends out emails to people about different Christian web sites and articles she has found. The articles are always out of the ordinary and uplifting. She is an excellent example of the emerging church. These new micro churches are likely to be the hottest trend in the future.

Some Christian leaders call 'Emerging Church Movement' a threat to the Gospel . However as the 'emerging church' becomes more visible I think everyone will see it's a very crucial movement and could reach groups of people who are not interested in mainstream Christianity. Churches and ministries would do well to embrace this exciting movement.

The emerging church is a movement that could easily transcend denominations and unite the body of Christ like never before.

I hope this information will inspire Christians to reach out to people who wouldn't normally step foot in a church.
